Make working with ZIP codes in R painless with an integrated dataset of U.S. ZIP codes and functions for working with them. Search ZIP codes by multiple geographies, including state, county, city & across time zones. Also included are functions for relating ZIP codes to Census data, geocoding & distance calculations. New analyses can select an immutable modern data bundle through the next-generation API, while the historical interface remains compatible with version 0.3.5 for reproducible research.

Test-only fix for the CRAN check ERROR

A unit test asserted that the R < 4.0 session-temporary cache path did not contain the user's home directory. On the CRAN Debian check hosts the R session temporary directory itself is located under the checker's home directory, so the assertion failed there even though the package behaved correctly. The test now checks the actual contract: the old-R cache path is file.path(tempdir(), "zipcodeR-data") and differs from the persistent tools::R_user_dir() location used on R 4.0 or newer.
No package code, documentation, exported API, or bundled dataset changed. The 0.3.5 reproducibility contract and the _ng API are identical to 0.4.0.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.
