Download TIGER/Line shapefiles from the United States Census Bureau (https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/tiger-line-file.html) and load into R as 'sf' objects.

Changes in 2.3.0

Functions now default to a year of 2025.
Downloads now use {httr2}. Temporary server errors and incomplete or corrupt files are retried automatically before falling back to FTP, a file that doesn't exist on the Census Bureau's server gets a clear error right away, and cached files are only replaced once the new download reads correctly. The geocoder also retries temporary server errors. tigris now requires R 4.1 or later and imports {httr2} and {zip} in place of {httr}; the timeout argument is no longer needed.
A new function, population_centers(), returns Census centers of population for states, counties, Census tracts, and block groups for 2000, 2010, and 2020.
places() now supports 2000 and 2010, and roads(), primary_roads(), and primary_secondary_roads() support 2010. county_subdivisions() accepts multiple states.
County names that match more than one county (e.g. "Collin", which also matches Collingsworth County, Texas) prompt you to choose in interactive sessions and error with the choices otherwise. An exact name match always wins.
validate_state() and validate_county() are now exported, with a multiple argument for validating several states or counties at once. Errors, warnings, and messages use {cli} throughout.
