Download, inspect, reconcile, and summarize mammal taxonomic names with the Mammal Diversity Database (MDD). Supports accepted names, synonyms, original combinations, distribution summaries, and mapped outputs derived from packaged MDD releases. Designed for reproducible mammal name resolution workflows in 'R'.

mdd_distribution_map() adds customizable Natural Earth distribution maps with automatic zoom and exact/partial input reconciliation.
mdd_distribution_summary() adds country-, continent-, and subregion-level diversity tables with counts of orders, families, genera, living species, and extinct species.
mdd_matching() adds staged reconciliation across checklist names and synonyms using exact and fuzzy matching.
mdd_taxon_info() returns accepted-name summaries, grouped taxonomic sections, and linked synonym records from packaged MDD data.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make
