The 'APT Package Management System' provides Debian and Debian-derived Linux systems with a powerful system to resolve package dependencies. This package offers access directly from R. This can only work on a system with a suitable 'libapt-pkg-dev' installation so functionality is curtailed if such a library is not found.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from eddelbuettel/rcppapt. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
