Searches for, accesses, and retrieves Statistics Canada data tables, as well as individual vectors, as tidy data frames. This package enriches the tables with metadata, deals with encoding issues, allows for bilingual English or French language data retrieval, and bundles convenience functions to make it easier to work with retrieved table data. For more efficient data access the package allows for caching data in a local database and database level filtering, data manipulation and summarizing.

Minor changes

table downloads now warn about repaired member labels the same way they warn about repaired column names. A table whose column names are clean but whose labels carry a non-breaking space, for example the province names in 13-10-0383, was repaired silently because the metadata parser assumed the column name warning had already covered it. Every download path reports it once now, and the warning is silenced by the same options(cansim.suppress_repair_warnings=TRUE) (#169)
the repair warnings, the warning about a cache built before the repair and the warning about vector requests that return no data are no longer hard-wrapped to the width R reports at the time they are raised. That width matched the window only by luck, so the text broke in the middle of sentences in RStudio panes, knitted documents and resized terminals. Each sentence now starts on its own line and the window wraps the rest at its actual width
the vignettes on listing tables, retrieving vectors and working with hierarchies ship with the package again. They had been excluded from the CRAN build since 2018 and were only reachable on the pkgdown site

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.
