Query the main 'R' 'SVN' repository to find the versions 'r-release' and 'r-oldrel' refer to, and also all previous 'R' versions and their release dates.

Changes in 3.0.0

rversions now uses R-hub's R version API.

The r_oldrel(), r_release(), r_release_macos(), r_release_tarball(),

and r_release_win() functions are now superseded by the new resolve()

function, see their manual pages.

New function resolve() to resolve an R version specification.
New function available() to list available R builds for a platform.
New function linux_distros() to list Linux distributions supported by Posit or R-hub.
New function rtools_versions() to list Rtools versions.
New utility function current_r_platform() to look up the current platform, including the distribution and release on Linux.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make
