Show What an IP Address Literal Means Under Every Standard
Overview
Standards and implementations disagree about what an IP address literal means: the string "0177.0.0.1" is rejected by the dotted-quad grammar, read as 127.0.0.1 by browsers, and read as 177.0.0.1 by some 'inet_pton' implementations. Most libraries pick one reading and discard the rest. This package reports them all, alongside the reason codes that explain each one, and classifies parsed values against the IANA special-purpose address registries. It is pure R, performs no network access, and returns facts rather than allow or deny verdicts.
First published release. 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 were tagged during development, on
2026-07-31 and 2026-08-02, and neither was submitted anywhere; 0.1.2 supersedes
both and is the version to install. Everything in the notes below is present
here.
URL:andBugReports:name the GitLab repository. They previously named a GitHub account that no longer exists, so both fields resolved to 404.- No user-visible behavior change from 0.1.1. The exported functions, the six dialects and the reason-code table are identical; the
sincecolumn reads0.1.2because that is the first release a consumer can obtain.
