This is a collection of data and functions for common metrics in political science research. Data measuring ideology, and functions calculating geographical diffusion and ideological diffusion - geog.diffuse() and ideo.dist(), respectively. Functions derived from methods developed in: Soule and King (2006) doi:10.1086/499908, Berry et al. (1998) doi:10.2307/2991759, Cruz-Aceves and Mallinson (2019) doi:10.1177/0160323X20902818, and Grossback et al. (2004) doi:10.1177/1532673X04263801.

Install

R (CRAN)Ubuntu (r2u)Fedora (COPR)openSUSE (OBS)

install.packages("polimetrics", repos = "https://cloud.r-project.org/")

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Release

sudo apt install -y r-cran-polimetrics

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

# enable the iucar/cran COPR if it is not already present, then install
ls /etc/yum.repos.d/*iucar*cran*.repo >/dev/null 2>&1 \
  || sudo dnf copr enable -y iucar/cran
sudo dnf install -y R-CRAN-polimetrics

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
