Abstract Raster Tiling Schemes
Overview
Impose a tiling scheme on a raster grid defined by its dimension and extent. Computes tile counts, pixel offsets (suitable for spatial library windowed reads), and geographic extents for each tile. Also supports standard Web Mercator and geodetic tiling profiles with zoom levels, and provides a spatial map of what each chunk covers for interrogating virtual raster stores. Based on the analysis of Lamb (1994, ISBN-13: 978-0748403158) "Tiling very large rasters" in 'Advances in GIS Research: Proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Spatial Data Handling', volume 1, pages 449-461.
- Preparing for CRAN submission.
grout()is now the definitive user constructor; removed internal.groutfrom()wrapper and deaddimXYcompatibility branch..tilescheme()simplified: tile counts now computed withceiling()for clarity; removed duplicate "hack" comment logic.print.grout_tiles()output usesxformat for dimensions and now returnsxinvisibly (notNULL).plot.grout_tiles()rewritten to iterate individual tile rectangles rather than relying on an unexportedas_rectS3 method.as_rect_grout()is now an internal helper (not an S3 generic);.p2s()(unused) removed.extent.grout_tilescheme()replaced by internal.tilescheme_extent().

tile_spec()andtile_zoom()cleaned up: explicitas.integer()coercions, removedRemotes:dependency on dev vaster, informational messages improved.- Comprehensive test suite added covering dangle trimming, contiguous offsets, input validation, and
tile_spec()/tile_zoom()output. - DESCRIPTION bumped to
R (>= 3.5.0), addedConfig/testthat/edition: 3, removedRemotes:field, addedwktoSuggests.
