Implementation of the Future API doi:10.32614/RJ-2021-048 on top of the 'batchtools' package. This allows you to process futures, as defined by the 'future' package, in parallel out of the box, not only on your local machine or ad-hoc cluster of machines, but also via high-performance compute ('HPC') job schedulers such as 'LSF', 'OpenLava', 'Slurm', 'SGE', and 'TORQUE' / 'PBS', e.g. 'y <- lapply(files, FUN = process) |> futurize::futurize()'.

Significant Changes

Update the license to LGPL (>= 3) and clarify that the majority of the source code, with the exception of two files, are dual licensed under Apache License (>= 2).

New Features

Added find_template_file() and render_template() for locating and previewing a batchtools job-script template, e.g. to inspect exactly how resources expand into scheduler directives without submitting a real job.

Bug Fixes

For batchtools_slurm, the sacct fallback to query job statuses when not showing up in squeue never happened due to a thinko.

batchtools_multicore() ignored argument 'delete'.
batchtools_bash() ignored 'resources' field 'runtime'.
Argument 'delete' for BatchtoolsFutureBackend() used the wrong R option as the default.
The deletion of batchtools futures silently did not produce an error if it failed to remove the registry folder.
Waiting for an available worker with a timeout greater than 60 seconds could take much longer than that.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make
