Extracts and parses structured metadata ('YAML' or 'TOML') from the beginning of text documents. Front matter is a common pattern in 'Quarto' documents, 'R Markdown' documents, static site generators, documentation systems, content management tools and even 'Python' and 'R' scripts where metadata is placed at the top of a document, separated from the main content by delimiter fences.

Install

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from posit-dev/frontmatter. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

sudo dnf install -y R-CRAN-frontmatter

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
