Collection of functions to help retrieve U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency water quality and hydrology data from web services.

Changes in 2.7.27

All NWIS functions will now error out by default. NWIS servers will be taken offline February 22nd, 2027. Use override_error = TRUE to temporarily override this error.
Added sublocation_identifier parameter to read_waterdata_field_measurements and read_waterdata_field_meta.
Added method_category parameter to read_waterdata_continuous.
Updated Water Data API informational links to v1.

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Development version from DOI-USGS/dataRetrieval. Installs pak first if it is not already available.

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled. We list this channel from recorded r2u download activity rather than from a live index of the repository, so treat it as last known rather than guaranteed.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make
