Functions to combine data on voting blocs' size, turnout, and vote choice to estimate each bloc's vote contributions to the Democratic and Republican parties. The package also includes functions for uncertainty estimation and plotting. Users may define voting blocs along a discrete or continuous variable. The package implements methods described in Grimmer, Marble, and Tanigawa-Lau (2023) doi:10.31235/osf.io/c9fkg.

Install

install.packages("blocs", repos = "https://cloud.r-project.org/")

Installs the current CRAN release. Prebuilt binaries on Windows and macOS.

Release

Fast Ubuntu binaries via r2u (no compilation). The cranapt setup runs once and is skipped when it is already enabled.

bspm (used by r2u) also needs make: sudo apt install make

  || sudo dnf copr enable -y iucar/cran
sudo dnf install -y R-CRAN-blocs

RPMs from the iucar/cran COPR, rebuilt from CRAN.

For install.packages() integration in R, also: sudo dnf install R-CoprManager
